Marrakech, often referred to as the “Red City” or “Ochre City” due to its distinctive red sandstone architecture, is one of Morocco‘s most vibrant and historically significant cities. Located in the foothills of the Atlas Mountains, approximately 327 kilometers (203 miles) southwest of Rabat, it serves as the capital of the Marrakech-Safi region and is the fourth-largest city in Morocco, with a population nearing 1.5 million.
Marrakech enjoys a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. Summer temperatures can soar above 40°C (104°F), while winter nights can dip to around 2°C (36°F). The city’s location near the Atlas Mountains contributes to its temperature variations and occasional rainfall during winter months.
